{"id":1375,"date":"2026-06-22T18:42:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T18:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1375"},"modified":"2026-06-22T18:42:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T18:42:23","slug":"the-philly-region-is-under-a-flood-watch-and-storms-may-disrupt-world-cup-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1375","title":{"rendered":"The Philly region is under a flood watch, and storms may disrupt World Cup games"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The region evidently is about to get some drought relief \u2014 maybe too much relief.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1373\">\u2018Oh Mary!\u2019 is coming to Philadelphia on its first national tour<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch for the I-95 corridor from Wilmington to New York City, in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>On Monday afternoon, showers that were accompanied by \u201ca lot of lightning\u201d were approaching the region, said Patrick O\u2019Hara, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>At 2:10 p.m., the federal Storm Prediction Center, in Noman, Okla., issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire region, in effect until 9 p.m.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Unfortunately, that timing of the stronger storms may coincide with the World Cup soccer match in South Philly between France and Iraq, which is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The Fan Fest activities at Fairmount Park\u2019s Lemon Hill were suspended during the afternoon and people were asked to leave and find shelter.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The World Cup match in New York City, due to start at 8 p.m. may encounter similar problems as the entire region from Mississippi to New York was under threat of severe weather, according to the storm center.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>And the Phillies may be in for rain delays when they play the Nationals in Washington Monday evening.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In the Philly region, along with the potential for wind gusts approaching 60 mph, the area has an outside shot at experiencing an isolated tornado. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Will the rains end the Philly region\u2019s drought conditions?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>No. Life is not fair, and neither is summer rain, which by its nature is capricious.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1371\">Virtua Mount Holly nurses approve contract after threatening to strike<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Some areas are likely to get hammered with up to 2 inches in downpours, forecasters said, but in general the totals are expected to average one-half to an inch throughout the region into Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Through Sunday, officially June rainfall at Philadelphia International Airport was 1.25 inches below normal, and this after 10 consecutive months of below-normal precipitation.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Most of the region is in \u201cmoderate drought\u201d according to the inter-agency U.S. Drought Monitor, and Cape May County, most of Delaware, and New Jersey areas along the Delaware Bay are in \u201cextreme drought.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>State-declared drought emergencies are in effect for New Jersey and Chester County.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The weather service said that it\u2019s possible that some areas could receive 1 to 2 inches of rain in an hour.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>But downpours aren\u2019t known for their attention spans, and rains can run off rapidly.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf the rain doesn\u2019t penetrate the soil, it doesn\u2019t help,\u201d said O\u2019Hara. \u201cIdeally, it would soak into the ground over a couple-day period.
