{"id":1686,"date":"2026-06-27T22:11:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T22:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1686"},"modified":"2026-06-27T22:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T22:11:09","slug":"the-sixers-stixers-become-the-citys-official-drum-line-and-get-a-west-philly-street-renamed-in-their-honor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1686","title":{"rendered":"The Sixers Stixers become the city\u2019s official drum line and get a West Philly street renamed in their honor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div><audio><\/audio><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The West Powelton Steppers and Drum Squad, in celebration of their 35th anniversary, endured the weather and took to the streets, drowning out the sound of rain with the beating of drums on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1684\">Zack Wheeler is outpacing previous seasons with his \u2018remarkable\u2019 return from thoracic outlet syndrome<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Kicking off at 41st and Filbert and circling back around to 40th and Powelton, the Steppers \u2014 known by many in the region for their work as the Sixers Stixers \u2014 led a parade to start the day, followed by a ceremony renaming the 4100 block of Powelton, which will now be known as West Powelton Steppers Way. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe West Powelton Steppers and Drum Squad\u2019s drum beat is Philly\u2019s heartbeat,\u201d Jamie Gauthier, City Councilmember of Philadelphia\u2019s 3rd district, said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Other drumlines and squads, as well as family and friends, joined in the celebration while vendors lined the street in recognition of the group Elsie Wise founded in 1991. Her grandson, Antoine Mapp, is now the director of the West Powelton Steppers. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>When Mapp\u2019s grandmother founded the drumline, the hope was to give young people in the community a safe place to go, while instilling core values of discipline and hard work, a legacy which Mapp now continues through his work. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Gauthier helped unveil the renaming of the street and presented Mapp and the steppers with a key to the city. Mapp was also honored with an honorary badge from the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI know that your grandmother is looking down on you right now and is so unbelievably proud,\u201d Gauthier said while addressing Mapp. \u201cYou have taken this squad to heights no one could have imagined 35 years ago.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=1682\">What we know about the Olney investigation into missing women<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In their 35 years, the Steppers have become the city\u2019s official steppers, as well as the official steppers for the sheriff\u2019s department and the Philadelphia International Airport. As the Sixers Stixers, they became the official steppers for the 76ers in 2013. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Gauthier commended the Steppers for their ability to \u201celectrify\u201d the crowd anywhere they went, from Sixers games to community rallies. Along with their affiliation with the Sixers, the drum squad also performed in the Eagles Super Bowl Parade, the Phillies World Series Parade and at some Phillies games where they\u2019re billed as the Bass Line.
