Mikie Sherrill climbed onto an emergency water vehicle in Camden on Tuesday with Camden Fire Chief Jesse Flax. That same vehicle, called the High Water One, was used by local emergency responders to rescue 14 people from the flooded streets of Camden on Monday, Flax said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=2194\">Police release images of suspect SUV in hit-and-run death of Temple University student<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The vehicle had just arrived in the city one week earlier, just in time for what officials said was the worst flooding they had ever seen in the city, including from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen this in my whole career,\u201d said Flax, who\u2019s worked in the city for three decades. \u201cI\u2019ve seen bad fires, I\u2019ve seen a lot of different things. But I\u2019ve never seen it flood in this capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>No one was reported injured among 1,000 calls to emergency services.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Sherrill thanked emergency responders and comforted Maria Perez, a Camden resident recovering from surgery who worked with her neighbors to fight the flooding by \u201ctelling them what to do and keeping them calm.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI wanted them to keep plastic bags on their feet too, because you don\u2019t know what\u2019s in that water. \u2026 I\u2019m so glad that we had such a great team,\u201d Perez, a member of the Camden schools advisory board, said in an interview.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The governor\u2019s visit came just a little more than an hour after she signed legislation in Salem County aimed at data centers. She saidthat very work can help prevent strain on the power grid during future storms and that the electrical grid is \u201ctop of mind\u201d for her.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing these extreme weather events more and more and more frequently,\u201d said Sherrill, who was dealt a historic snowstorm just weeks into her term and has recently seen a deadly heat wave. After her stop in Camden, she went to a BJ\u2019s in Monmouth County where a roof fell in from Monday\u2019s flooding.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>One of the bills Sherrill signed into law on Tuesday creates a new ratepayer class and ratestructure for data centers that\u2019s meant to ensure they pay for their own energy.
