{"id":23,"date":"2026-05-26T18:14:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T18:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=23"},"modified":"2026-05-26T18:14:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T18:14:11","slug":"a-delco-man-was-sentenced-to-decades-in-prison-for-his-role-in-the-fatal-beating-of-an-18-month-old-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=23","title":{"rendered":"A Delco man was sentenced to decades in prison for his role in the fatal beating of an 18-month-old girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div><audio><\/audio><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A Chester man has been sentenced to 24\u00bd to 50 years state prison in connection with the fatal beating of his girlfriend\u2019s 18-month-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=21\">Habibi Supper Club is becoming a brick-and-mortar restaurant on East Passyunk Avenue<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Maurice Davis, 34, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and conspiracy to commit third-degree murder in the 2021 death of Li\u2019Aziah Thomas, who Delaware County prosecutors said was regularly subjected to horrific abuse during her short life.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Li\u2019Aziah\u2019s mother, Kandie Meinhart, previously admitted to dealing the blow that killed her in January 2021. But Davis, according to First Assistant District Attorney Kristen Kemp, also beat the girl inside an apartment they shared on Pine Lane.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>That beating, Kemp said, weakened the toddler severely, to the point that she was unable to survive Meinhart\u2019s abuse.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe weakening of this poor baby due to the defendant\u2019s actions and his ongoing actions, allowing Kandie Meinhart to do what she did and remaining in that conspiracy is why we\u2019re here today,\u201d Kemp said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s why instead of being a 6 year old who is about to finish her first grade year, Li\u2019Aziah Thomas is in a box in the home of her family.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In handing down his sentence May 20, Delaware County Court Judge Kevin F. Kelly also barred Davis from being left alone with or living with anyone under the age of 16.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Davis apologized to Li\u2019Aziah\u2019s father and grandmother in the courtroom, professing his innocence and placing the blame on Meinhart.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI really am sorry. I wish I could really tell you what happened, but I can\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cI understand y\u2019all have a job to do. [Li\u2019Aziah] needs justice, but at end of the day I\u2019m going through it, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In July, Davis entered his no contest plea, a year after Meinhart was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in state prison for third-degree murder.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, Davis attempted to revoke that plea and proceed to trial. Kelly denied his motion.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Li\u2019Aziah was found dead Jan. 20, 2021 inside the second-floor apartment where Meinhart and Davis lived with Meinhart\u2019s three other children. The toddler had severe bruising on her buttocks as well as her back and sides, some of which look liked knuckle marks. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The blow that killed her, investigators said, was so severe that it lacerated Li\u2019Aziah\u2019s liver and caused internal bleeding.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=19\">Home price cuts and canceled contracts were less likely in the Philly region than in most major metros in April<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>When paramedics arrived, Meinhart was performing CPR on the clearly dead child. One later testified at a preliminary hearing that she overheard Meinhart tell Li\u2019Aziah\u2019s father \u201cYour bitch is dead\u201d on a phone call.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The girl had soft tissue injuries that a medical examiner determined were several hours older than the blow that killed her.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Kemp, the prosecutor, said Meinhart\u2019s other children told investigators they had seen Davis spank Li\u2019Aziah as he attempted to potty train her. The children said Davis also abused them, including once dangling a boy over the staircase, and punching another in the chest.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>After the toddler\u2019s death, the couple conspired to hide the circumstances of her death, continuing to communicate even after they both had been arrested, according to Kemp.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>They lied to police, saying neither was home at the time. Meinhart publicly professed her innocence on a talk radio show, and started a GoFundMe for funeral expenses that prosecutors said she instead used to fund a vacation to Miami.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Davis\u2019 attorney, Michael Malloy, said during the sentencing hearing that Meinhart was the one responsible for her daughter\u2019s death. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201c[Davis\u2019] biggest problem was, quite frankly, he got involved with the devil,\u201d Malloy said. \u201cI think that\u2019s one thing the Commonwealth and I can agree on. Her actions are just hard to understand.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Malloy noted that Meinhart\u2019s relatives had reported her neglect of her children to Delaware County\u2019s department of Children and Youth Services multiple times in the past.
