Multiple sources have told The Inquirer that it\u2019s a personal matter, but there seems to be more to it.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The Union have received offers for Makhanya from Scotland\u2019s Rangers FC and Belgium\u2019s Genk of around $4 million each, and turned them down so far. The aforementioned sources also signaled there was an agreement of some kind that the club would sell him if an offer came. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>But there were different portrayals of how ironclad that agreement was, and whether the Union could hold firm on demanding a presumably higher fee.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><svg><g><g><g><\/g><\/g><\/g><\/svg><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>View this post on Instagram<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, Makhanya isn\u2019t happy about the situation, as the Athletic first reported Monday morning. There\u2019s been plenty of communication between his side and the Union front office, but it isn\u2019t clear right now when he\u2019ll be back on the field.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>What is clear is that Richter will be without one of his best defenders for his first game in charge, and possibly more than that.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI worked with Olwethu when he first joined the club, and we have a good personal relationship,\u201d he said. \u201cBut right now, his situation, he\u2019s away from the club for personal reasons, and I think we\u2019re going to leave it like that for now with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Makhanya\u2019s departure isn\u2019t the only one on the table. It will be hard to see that as anything other than a punt. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>When Scheer met with the media over the weekend, he tried to not portray it that way. But in the end, he couldn\u2019t quite keep his cards hidden.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a young player, he\u2019s got a lot of athletic tools,\u201d Scheer said. \u201cWe need more production from the left fullback spot. But it doesn\u2019t mean that Philippe doesn\u2019t have talent and a skill set that he can offer ourselves, or any other club.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The good news for Wednesday is that Wagner is expected to be ready to play his first game back with the Union.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s fit, he\u2019s ready to play, and it\u2019s not only Kai and the fans that want him out there \u2014 it\u2019s the coaching staff and it\u2019s his teammates that also want him out there,\u201d Richter said. \u201cWe [will] see exactly how he is for the 90 minutes in the match, but he\u2019s in a really good spot, and I think he\u2019s ready. And I don\u2019t know if he would let me keep him out from this game.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Quinn Sullivan might also be ready for his first game minutes since tearing an ACL last September.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not going to be that he\u2019s just available 90 minutes from the start, but he will be available for the match,\u201d Richter said.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The bench might also include Neil Pierre, the promising 18-year-old centerback who spent the first six months of this year on loan at Danish club Lyngby \u2014 part-owned by the Union.
