Cole, whose latest album is called <i>The Fall-Off,<\/i> loves the sport. His music is coded with basketball references, begging comparisons between an athlete\u2019s dedication on the court to Cole\u2019s in the music studio. He, being a basketball player himself, understands how the game can force you to hang up your jersey, even when you feel there\u2019s more to give. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>But the same rules don\u2019t apply to the rap game, and Cole knows that. At 41, he made a pro basketball run in China in April, when most athletes his age have either retired or are in the twilight of their careers. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Sure, his new song claims \u201cthe fall-off is inevitable,\u201d but unlike an aged NBA star, there\u2019s nothing that points to Cole\u2019s musical decline. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>His first of two shows at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Monday night for \u201cThe Fall-Off World Tour\u201d was enough proof. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Despite initial claims that <i>The Fall-Off<\/i> would be his last studio album, the man isn\u2019t showing any signs of retiring. He\u2019s simply relishing the moment, enjoying the ride he\u2019s taken with his fans since 2007\u2019s <i>The Come Up<\/i>, and occasionally taking self-fulfilling detours along the way. And to his fans\u2019 delight, he doesn\u2019t lift his foot off the gas. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Cole\u2019s journey to the Xfinity Mobile Arena stage began amid the crowd, dressed in an unassuming black sweatshirt. He made his appearance sitting in the middle of an arena spotlight that located him in the stands. A video of him appeared on the stage\u2019s LED screen; a title card identified Jermaine Lamarr Cole as the director of the show we were about to witness. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>With \u201c39 Intro\u201d blaring in the arena, Cole walked through the crowd shaking hands with everyone in his path. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The battered Honda Civic that Cole has kept from his college days, and later drove across the country  to promote <i>The Fall-Off<\/i>\u2019s release, descended onto the stage. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Cole was in the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>With a replica of Fayetteville, N.C.\u2019s historic Market House in the background, he transitioned to hard-hitting odes to his hometown. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>When he performed \u201cTwo Six,\u201d a reference to the 26th county in North Carolina where his city lies, the crowd swung their tour-branded towels in the air like fans at an NBA playoff game. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re only a few songs in, and I can tell this is one of them ones,\u201d Cole said less than 10 minutes into his setlist, before breaking into \u201cSafety,\u201d followed by a five-minute monologue talking about Disc 29, the first half of <i>The Fall-Off<\/i>. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>These moments allowed Cole to delve deep into his creative choices and concepts, but it was at the expense of the show\u2019s momentum. He halted tracks like \u201cLife Sentence\u201d to express how much he wants his fans\u2019 marriages to succeed, all to little effect. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Those lengthy spiels aside, the sequencing of his songs provided a window into Cole\u2019s mind. And with every changing record and shift in the emotional weight, the stage backdrop changed hues \u2014 from bright amber on \u201cTwo Six\u201d to deep blues and violets on \u201cPoor Thang.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The smoke intensified as Cole bounced from 2014\u2019s \u201cA Tale of 2 Citiez\u201d and \u201cFire Squad,\u201d before pausing to ask the crowd for a quick favor. \u201cPhilly, I know y\u2019all don\u2019t play about your sports teams \u2026 Whether you\u2019re from PA, Philly, or Jersey, can y\u2019all pretend y\u2019all from Fayetteville for this one song? Is that cool?\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>It didn\u2019t take much convincing. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>He broke out into \u201cOld Dog,\u201d and the crowd obliged \u2013 erupting as the booming record sprung into rotation.  <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=2911\">Shapiro visits Philly to debut $125 million investment in Pennsylvania\u2019s life sciences industry<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>As a note of thanks, Cole played a medley of one-off singles and collaborative hits, including \u201cMIDDLE CHILD\u201d and \u201ca lot,\u201d his Grammy-winning collab with 21 Savage. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>He pooled the audience to see which of his fans could spit his verse on Benny the Butcher\u2019s \u201cJohnny P\u2019s Caddy,\u201d and one lucky Altoona, Pa., native was handpicked to join him on stage. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Colethen moved to early mixtape favorites like \u201cLights Please\u201d and \u201cIn the Mourning\u201d before leaping to radio jams like \u201cWork Out\u201d and \u201cNobody\u2019s Perfect,\u201d all with seamless execution.<b>. <\/b><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The crowd rose to their feet for \u201cWet Dreamz\u201d and hoisted their phone lights to \u201cLove Yourz.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Then, after singing \u201cPower Trip\u201d and \u201cPlanez,\u201d Cole proceeded to spoil the show\u2019s end. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t lie, I have two more songs left,\u201d he declared. \u201cThe second is a selfish one. It\u2019s for me.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The first  was \u201cNo Role Modelz,\u201d a track accompanied with an AI video of Cole dressed as former President George W. Bush misstating a common proverb during his 2002 visit to a Nashville high school. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFool me once \u2026 shame on you. Fool me \u2014 you can\u2019t get fooled again,&#8221; Cole rapped the former president\u2019s version. The obviously doctored video briefly amused the crowd (and Cole). <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The final song of Cole\u2019s performance was \u201cQuik Stop.\u201d Another detour. But a welcome one, no doubt. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a hit record. So, if you want to leave to beat traffic, I get it,\u201d he said. \u201cI got to do this song.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Fans barely budged as Cole closed the two-hour show with a record that encapsulates how one encounter with a fan reminded him of his musical existence. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>That closing record was reflective of Cole\u2019s delivery throughout the show. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>He isn\u2019t one for onstage theatrics, synchronized pyrotechnics, or elaborate LED graphics. It\u2019s just him and a microphone, a direct exchange between him and his fans with a few  monologues thrown into the mix. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>As it stands, Cole hasn\u2019t lost sight of that connection, and he certainly hasn\u2019t lost his musical touch or command on stage.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>There\u2019s no \u201cfalling off\u201d here, only falling forward.
