Now more than three weeks after the opening of the free agency period, that idea is officially a reality. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3084\">Steve Gansey received a whole lot of brotherly love after LeBron James picked the Sixers<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The news broke on Friday morning with essentially no warning. James, himself announced the signing on his X account, and an immediate storm of takes ensued.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins said the move makes Philadelphia a legitimate championship threat. Perkins and James played together on a 2014-15 Cleveland Cavaliers team that fell to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. With an existing core of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and the recently acquired Jaylen Brown, Perkins believes that James is the piece that will put Philadelphia over the top.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe Philadelphia 76ers, with LeBron James, can win the championship this year, with this roster,\u201d Perkins said. \u201cThe teams that he won a championship with, they had dogs\u2026 this is what [the 76ers] have\u201d.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Hall of Famer Vince Carter was equally high on the Sixers\u2019 latest signing, calling his presence on an already talented roster \u201ccheating.\u201d Like James, who is entering his 24th season in the NBA, Carter also played well into his 40s, with a career spanning from 1998 to 2020. Leading up to Friday\u2019s announcement, the Sixers were ranked No. 4 across prediction markets, trailing the Warriors, Cavaliers, and Heat in likelihood to sign James. Days ago, Miami posted an announcement of a future YouTube stream to formally introduce James, which they said was accidental. But many fans believed the accident was the stream being leaked early, not that James wasn\u2019t signing in Miami. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Podcast host Dan Le Batard said he was confident in James heading back to Miami from the start.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just now beginning to get the texts that the Heat are curious how it is that the Sixers did this,\u201d Le Batard said. \u201cI think a whole lot of people are surprised that it happened at all, even though Philadelphia was always in the conversation \u2026 nobody thought that he would trust Joel Embiid\u2019s health as the punctuation on his career.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Another factor that surprised Le Batard was financial, stating that sources had told him Miami\u2019s offer to James was for double the money.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Miami heat are curious to why LeBron James went to the Sixers for half the money they offered, per @LeBatardShow <\/p>\n<p>(h\/t @Thechat101) pic.twitter.com\/emEgsY8gMJ<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \ud835\ude43\ud835\ude40\ud835\ude3c\ud835\ude4f \ud835\ude49\ud835\ude3c\ud835\ude4f\ud835\ude44\ud835\ude4a\ud835\ude49 (@HeatvsHaters) July 24, 2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Friday morning\u2019s news was equally as shocking to ESPN\u2019s Stephen A. Smith, who thought the Akron, Ohio native would return to his home state and the Cleveland Cavaliers for his third stint. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI thought that if he was going back East, he would go home, that he wouldn\u2019t dangle his availability in the face of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and then go somewhere else,\u201d Smith said. \u201cFor him to choose the Philadelphia 76ers, this is a shock amongst shockers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Smith\u2019s thought process was one shared by many who assumed James desired a \u201cstorybook ending\u201d with his last team. The 41-year-old grew up 40 miles from Cleveland, was drafted first overall by the Cavaliers, spent 11 seasons with the team, and brought the franchise its first and only championship. And yet, Philadelphia prevailed.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3082\">LeBron James\u2019 agent, Rich Paul, explains why the all-time great picked the Sixers<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis speaks to Bob Myers, the architect, the former four0 time championship executive for the Golden State Warriors,\u201d Smith said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Myers, who serves as president of Harris Blitzer Sports &amp; Entertainment (HBSE), led the search for the Sixers\u2019 next President of Basketball Operations back in May, following the firing of former executive Daryl Morey. Myers hired former Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey to lead the team at the end of May, with the former Warriors executive remaining involved in what he called \u201chigh level decision making.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The signing of James certainly qualifies.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I thought that if he was going back East, he would go home, that he wouldn&#8217;t dangle his presence, his availability in the face of the Cleveland Cavaliers and then go somewhere else&#8221; \u2013 Stephen A. The 11-time All-Star was enthusiastic about his former team\u2019s chances with the addition of James.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely championship or bust, man. I mean, that\u2019s the added piece,\u201d Iverson said. \u201cObviously, you put him on any team\u2026 you definitely have a chance.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Though optimistic, one concern Iverson had was the team\u2019s health. Joel Embiid has played in just 96 of 246 possible games over the past three seasons, and the team has generally struggled in his absence. Nearing age 42, James\u2019 health is no certainty either. But Iverson believes that adding James to an already potent core gives the Sixers a great chance to thrive, and potentially return to the Finals for the first time since Iverson\u2019s MVP season of 2000-01.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe just boosts the percentage of any team having a chance to win the championship\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely championship or bust, man. Charles Barkley also chimed in, but said he was disappointed that James signed with his former team.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI wanted him to go back to Cleveland. I mean he has no affiliation with the 76ers,\u201d Barkley said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>As for why James decided to sign with Philadelphia, Barkley believes it had to do with the other big Gansey\/Myers move this offseason \u2014 the trade for Jaylen Brown. The former Celtic averaged nearly 29 points per game this past season, and won Finals MVP honors two years prior.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI have no idea what the Celtics [were thinking] trading a great player like Jaylen, someone they gotta play against five times a year\u2026 but this move makes the Sixers the team to beat in the East.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Charles Barkley credits the Celtics for LeBron joining Philly:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was shocked, he has no affiliation with the 76ers.
