If you are part of the Philadelphia community, we want you to come showcase your business, your institution, your restaurant here,\u201d Zarnighian said.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFrom 1788 to now, we\u2019ve been about interfaith dialogue and sharing that common American heritage that doesn\u2019t recognize religion or race or anything like that \u2014 it\u2019s about being American,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Congregation Mikveh Israel has a rich history in Philadelphia tracing back to before the nation\u2019s founding.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The synagogue\u2019s artifacts and displays highlight the impact Philadelphia\u2019s Jewish community has had throughout history: from protesting the inclusion of a religion oath in the Constitution to founding the Association of Jewish Immigrants in 1884. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The synagogue\u2019s Spruce Street Cemetery recognizes some of this history, with part of the burial ground dedicated specifically to Jewish Revolutionary War soldiers, Zarnighian said.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In the synagogue at 44 N. 4th St., the centerpiece of the synagogue\u2019s connection to its past \u2014 a prayer table that has been used for centuries of services \u2014 sits atop a marble Civil War-ear platform. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the symbol of uninterrupted Jewish prayer in Philadelphia since 1782,\u201d Zarnighian said. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3158\">Off-duty Philadelphia police officer facing charges in connection with deadly shooting<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Longtime members of the congregation, siblings Sheryl Kline and Mark Fried, had a special connection to the history on display at Sunday\u2019s event and were excited to share it. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Kept safe behind protective glass, the pair looked down at the rare travel Torah that belonged to their grandfather, Gustav Cohn. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Roughly one-third the size of a regular Torah, Cohn was able to easily bring it along as he made his way across the country as a traveling salesman. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>He eventually settled in Philadelphia and in his later years, moved in with his daughter\u2019s family, who were longtime members of Mikveh Israel. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very proud,\u201d Kline said. \u201cWe\u2019re very proud to be part of the celebration of the country and the synagogue.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Now living in the suburbs, the siblings don\u2019t travel into the city for services every week but there is one special service that can\u2019t be missed. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Per Cohn\u2019s instructions when he loaned the Torah, it must be read at least once a year, Kline said, \u201cusually on my grandmother\u2019s birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3157\">Andrew Painter had a solid week in triple A.
