To Mayor Parker, \u2018it\u2019s about opening doors.\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Camden County had confirmed that a worker at the scrap metal plant had been transported to the hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries less than two weeks ago on July 18. The man remains in the hospital in stable condition and conscious. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The incident took place less than a week after the company announced its phased reopening after a string of fires. A judge had allowed EMR to resume operations after the company sued the city of Camden for suspending its operations.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Fire department documents obtained by The Inquirer through a public records request reveal that worker was injured while dismantling a crane. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>He was on a stretcher with \u201cwhat appeared to be a large Oxy-Acetylene blowtorch handle impaled into his left bicep and into his torso,\u201d when Camden City Fire Department Battalion Chief Ezequiel Tirado arrived on the scene to respond to a burn victim, according to his report.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Another workerwho could not speak English had cuts on his face, and blood and mud on his hands, according to Tirado\u2019s report. They spoke in Spanish, and the man said he was hurt but declined to be brought to the hospital, stating that he\u2019s an undocumented worker.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI told him, \u2018Don\u2019t worry about that. Scott said they were using a cutting torch to cut an old crane for scrap metal.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Tirado described the site of the incident as \u201cvery dark with no lighting equipment\u201d and lots of debris.
