{"id":3763,"date":"2026-08-12T06:13:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T06:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3763"},"modified":"2026-08-12T06:13:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T06:13:21","slug":"former-lumberton-mayor-in-trouble-again-with-new-criminal-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3763","title":{"rendered":"Former Lumberton mayor in trouble again with new criminal case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div><audio><\/audio><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gina LaPlaca, the former mayor of Lumberton Township who pleaded guilty earlier this year to driving drunk with her toddler in the car, has been charged with faking signatures on a nominating petition to run for township committee, the Burlington County Prosecutor\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=3761\">Phillies\u2019 Bryce Harper is managing knee soreness that\u2019s \u2018bothering me a little bit\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>LaPlaca, 47, and her husband Jason Carty, 49, were both charged by summons with third-degree knowingly filing a false petition, two counts of third-degree tampering with public records or information, and fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with records.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>LaPlaca also was charged with fourth-degree making a false statement under oath.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>According to the prosecutor\u2019s office, multiple individuals whose names and purported signatures appeared on LaPlaca\u2019s nominating petition indicated that they had neither signed the petition nor authorized anyone to do so on their behalf.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The petition was submitted by Carty to the Lumberton Township municipal clerk and contained an affidavit signed by LaPlaca that she \u201cpersonally circulated the petition [and] that such petition was signed by each of the signers thereof in his\/her own handwriting,\u201d the prosecutor\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Carty also allegedly collected signatures for the petition.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Without the allegedly fake signatures, the prosecutor\u2019s office said, LaPlaca\u2019s petition would have lacked the needed number of signatures required to be a candidate for the primary.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Both LaPlaca and Carty are scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Mount Holly on Sept. 21.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In March, LaPlaca, who served as mayor until December and was still a member of the township committee, pleaded guilty before Burlington County Superior Court Judge Craig Ambrose to driving under the influence and child endangerment.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Under a deal with prosecutors, LaPlaca entered a three-year diversionary program for first-time offenders. She also agreed to attend regular Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and install an ignition interlock device in her vehicle. LaPlaca told the judge she had installed an interlock device last October. And she had already completed inpatient and outpatient treatment, prosecutors said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Prosecutors said cell-phone video showed LaPlaca driving a blue 2019 BMW erratically on Route 38, swerving across the center line and nearly striking a utility pole. At the time, her blood-alcohol concentration measured 0.30% \u2014 more than three times New Jersey\u2019s legal threshold for intoxication.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Despite calls from state lawmakers to step down, she declined to resign as mayor and remained in office until her term ended in December.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In a text message Tuesday, LaPlaca said: \u201cI\u2019m still in process of retaining counsel so there\u2019s not much I can say other than these charges are absolutely baseless.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Carty could be reached for comment Tuesday. A lawyer for Carty could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In a separate case, Carty was arrested in late May and charged with aggravated assault and harassment, court records show.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The New Jersey Globe news outlet reported last month that LaPlaca had alleged that Carty tried to strangle her.
