{"id":381,"date":"2026-06-02T16:14:49","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T16:14:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=381"},"modified":"2026-06-02T16:14:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T16:14:49","slug":"meredith-elementary-in-south-philadelphia-amends-pride-celebration-after-conservative-backlash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=381","title":{"rendered":"Meredith Elementary in South Philadelphia amends Pride celebration after conservative backlash"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<div><audio><\/audio><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A South Philadelphia school\u2019s Pride Day event is being amended after a prominent conservative social media account put Meredith Elementary\u2019s celebration on blast on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=379\">Newark mayor says city will sue on health grounds in effort to shutter Delaney Hall ICE detention center<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Meredith Elementary, in Queen Village, celebrates Pride Month with a day of activities, typically culminating in all students and staff walking the perimeter of the school, waving flags.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Principal Nina Brevard, in a letter sent to families Monday, said the parade route would be shifted to the school yard and inside the building, a decision made by the school\u2019s Pride Committee and administration, as well as Philadelphia School District leadership.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhile we remain committed to supporting an inclusive and respectful school environment, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority,\u201d Brevard wrote. \u201cThis decision was made to ensure a positive and safe experience for all members of our school community.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The district\u2019s Office of School Safety will also \u201cincrease the presence of school safety officers in collaboration with the Philadelphia Police Department,\u201d Brevard wrote.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Family members who had planned to come view and cheer in the parade are still permitted to do so, the principal said, but were asked to stay on the building perimeter.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cDespite this shift, we still anticipate a day of celebration and inclusion,\u201d Brevard wrote, adding that all Pride Day events are not mandatory, and parents can opt their children out.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=377\">Lankenau Medical Center and other Main Line Health facilities had a narrow operating profit in the nine months ended March 31<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The conservative social media account LibsofTikTok, which has 4.7 million followers, posted about the Meredith event on Sunday.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Meredith, the account said, is holding a Pride parade \u201cfor kindergarteners. Little kids will be given pride stickers and pronoun pins to wear by staff to march for trans pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The account did not note that those students whose parents wanted them opted out won\u2019t be participating.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>LibsofTikTok suggested supporters to call the school to voice displeasure. A conservative writer also tagged the school district, saying \u201cPhiladelphia voters did not vote for this. Pull the program. Fire the principal.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Philadelphia has been a leader in rights for LGBTQ students; its groundbreaking policy 252 was among the first in the U.S. requiring school use gender-neutral language whenever possible and allowing students the right to use their preferred names and pronouns without parental approval or evidence of medical transition.
