Now, it\u2019s the top story. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Scott Pelley, one of the show\u2019s lead correspondents, was fired by CBS News Tuesday following a heated exchange with new <i>60 Minutes<\/i> producer Nick Bilton during a staff meeting Monday. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=438\">To Rob Mac, the devout Eagles fan, there\u2019s only one \u2018football.\u2019 To the rest of us, it\u2019s called soccer.<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In a statement posted on Instagram, Pelley accused management at CBS News \u2014 now run by former New York Times opinion columnist Bari Weiss \u2014 of trying to force him \u201cto inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story\u201d and to include \u201cassertions that are unverified.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><svg><g><g><g><\/g><\/g><\/g><\/svg><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>View this post on Instagram<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe leadership of<i> 60 Minutes<\/i> is no longer recognizable,\u201d Pelley said. \u201cThe principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>CBS News did not respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In a termination notice sent to Pelley obtained by The Inquirer, Bilton accused Pelley of carrying out an \u201cambush\u201d in front of staffers in an attempt to \u201cdisparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Weiss defended the move in a morning call with staffers Wednesday, according to multiple reports, saying it was \u201cthe path that he chose\u201d and claimed Pelley\u2019s comments lacked the \u201ctrust and mutual respect\u201d the newsroom is built on. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Pelley, who spent 37 years at CBS News, is the fourth correspondent to leave the show in recent weeks. Weiss has also swiftly replaced the show\u2019s leadership team and recently installed Bilton, a tech journalist and filmmaker with no TV news experience, as the show\u2019s top producer. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>It\u2019s a lot of change for a beloved brand that just finished its 58th season as the nation\u2019s most-watched news program, averaging 9.1 million viewers an episode, according to Nielsen. Ratings were up 9% compared to last year, though part of that is due to an adjustment by Nielsen on how it counts viewers. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Bilton said he was brought in to make changed to the show before its ratings decline. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s still the No. 1 news broadcast in America. But history tells you disruption doesn\u2019t happen immediately when new technology comes along \u2014 it\u2019s usually a few years later,\u201d Bilton told CNBC. \u201cWe\u2019re on the precipice of this happening to broadcast TV.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Which <i>60 Minutes<\/i> correspondents have been fired or left?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Pelley is just the latest high-profile exit from <i>60 Minutes<\/i>. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Longtime CNN anchor Anderson Cooper announced his departure from the show last month after 20 years, offering a warning to the network during his final appearance. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI hope <i>60 Minutes <\/i>remains <i>60 Minutes<\/i>,\u201d Cooper said, a statement that reportedly blindsided Weiss. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Sharyn Alfonsi, who just finished her 11th season with <i>60 Minutes<\/i>, was fired last week after a fight with management stemming from a segment about a notorious maximum security prison in El Salvador housing immigrants deported by the Trump administration. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFearless, independent reporting has always been the defining standard at <i>60 Minutes<\/i>,\u201d Alfonsi said in a statement. \u201cToday, CBS management is abandoning that mission, choosing access journalism over accountability and protecting power rather than scrutinizing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=436\">City asks court to let it strengthen bike lanes on Pine and Spruce Streets<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>CBS also fired Cecilia Vega, the show\u2019s first Latina correspondent, executive producer Tanya Simon, veteran executive editor Draggan Mihailovich, and senior producer Matthew Polevoy.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Vega echoed Pelley\u2019s remarks in a statement last week, claiming \u201cin recent months, my producing teams and I have experienced efforts to insert political bias into our stories.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>So who\u2019s left at <i>60 Minutes<\/i>?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>So who\u2019s left? Just three full-time correspondents. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The most well-known among them is Lesley Stahl, who\u2019s been with <i>60 Minutes<\/i> for 35 years. While she\u2019s won numerous awards and interviewed countless celebrities, including four with Trump, folks in Philly might remember her heated 2011 sit-down with then-Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>While Stahl hasn\u2019t spoken out like Pelley, she was reportedly upset when Weiss pushed her aside to hand a high-profile interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to CBS News correspondent Major Garrett, who doesn\u2019t work on <i>60 Minutes.<\/i> <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Bill Whitaker also remains on the show after finishing his 11 season, as does Jon Wertheim, who joined <i>60 Minutes <\/i>in 2017. There\u2019s also contributing correspondent Norah O\u2019Donnell, the former anchor of the <i>CBS Evening News. <\/i> <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Why is there so much turmoil at <i>60 Minutes<\/i>?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The moves at <i>60 Minutes<\/i> aren\u2019t happening in a vacuum. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>CBS and its former parent company, Paramount, were purchased by Skydance in 2024, forming a new company \u2014 the Paramount Skydance Corporation. David Ellison, the company\u2019s CEO and the son of Trump-supporting billionaire Larry Ellison, reportedly held a dinner party honoring the president but insisted on CNBC last month \u201ceditorial independence will absolutely be maintained\u201d at CBS News.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe want to be in the trust business,\u201d Ellison said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Pelley accused Ellison of casting the importance of <i>60 Minutes<\/i> aside, \u201capparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe waste is heartbreaking,\u201d Pelley said. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Pelley\u2019s firing also comes just weeks after Stephen Colbert hosted the final episode of <i>The Late Show<\/i>, which was canceled by CBS. Colbert was an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and his administration, but the network claimed the show was losing $40 million a year.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Like Colbert, <i>60 Minutes<\/i> has also been a Trump target. As the company was seeking federal approval of its merger, Paramount agreed to pay the president $16 million to settle a lawsuit over the editing of an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris that aired during the 2024 election. Trump had sought $20 billion in damages. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>These moves also come as Ellison and Paramount Skydance seeking final approval from the Trump administration on a $111-billion deal to purchase Warner Bros.
