Here\u2019s what this weekend has to offer | Things to do<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Kenneth Frye, 27, was found guilty by a jury that concluded he caused the death of 41-year-old Eric Pope when he punched him after removing him from the bar for being intoxicated. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Pope, a member of the city\u2019s LGBT community, struck his head on a metal sewer plate as he fell, prosecutors said. He died from blunt impact injuries after being treated for six days in a nearby hospital. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>On Thursday, District Attorney Larry Krasner called the case \u201ctragic\u201d and commended prosecutors for their work on the case. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Kelly Burkhardt, the District Attorney\u2019s Office\u2019s LGBTQIA+ liaison, said Pope\u2019s death had harmed the city\u2019s gay community and called Frye\u2019s conviction a \u201cstep toward healing.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Prosecutors had also charged Frye with third-degree murder, underscoring their view that the man\u2019s death was serious. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>But jurors did not find him guilty of the more serious crime. Instead, they convicted him of involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday in the courtroom of Common Pleas Court Judge Roxanne Covington.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate-movers-usa.com\/?p=506\">World Cup nations playing in Philly will receive soccer balls signed by the city\u2019s biggest sports stars<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Frye\u2019s attorney, Zak Taylor Goldstein, said Thursday that his client felt remorse for causing Pope\u2019s death. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201c[T]his was not a hate crime,\u201d Goldstein said. \u201cWe are very thankful that the jury paid close attention to the evidence and recognized that under Pennsylvania law, death resulting from one punch is involuntary manslaughter rather than murder.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Frye, of Philadelphia, was working for Mainline Private Security, a security company that had been hired by Tabu\u2019s management, when he fatally punched Pope in April of that year.
