A thrifting resurgence<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

A brand-new Goodwill in South Jersey, buzzing with shoppers snatching up affordable threads and decor, has seen early success amid a larger thrifting resurgence.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\ud83d\udcb0 Goodwill posted record revenue last year<\/b>. Its new Deptford location has seen healthy foot traffic in its first 12 days, averaging about 600 customers a day, according to its regional manager.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udecd\ufe0f Younger customers still shop at malls<\/b>, but they gravitate toward thrift stores like the new store on Clements Bridge Road because \u201ceverything is going up\u201d in price, one told Inquirer consumer reporter Erin McCarthy.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\ud83d\udcf1 Social media has also played role<\/b> in the rebirth of thrifting, as some discover and capitalize on thrifting as a way to bring in extra cash.<\/p>\n

Local diocese officials are confirming what\u2019s becoming a global trend: More people are converting or coming back to Catholicism.<\/p>\n

The reasons aren\u2019t straightforward. A litany of theories online and in the media \u2014 which are, at times, at odds with one another \u2014 look to an increase in conservatism in young men, a potential Gen Z response to pandemic isolation, and technology burnout as contributing factors.<\/p>\n

One priest told The Inquirer\u2019s Jason Nark that he believes some new devotees are seeking to fill a vacuum in their lives. Newer Catholics cited a slew of different personal reasons for their decision.<\/p>\n

In their own words:<\/b> \u201cIt\u2019s really a rough, rough time out there right now. There\u2019s no peace right now, and people are really looking for peace, and it\u2019s not there right now. For me, personally, when it gets really rough, I absolutely pray to God,\u201d one person told Nark.<\/p>\n
