Oh God, it\u2019s a disaster,\u201d Apody said Monday night before making her debut as a sports anchor on Fox 29. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Apody, who spent 18 years as part of 6abc\u2019s <i>Action News<\/i> team, is getting an expanded role at Fox 29. In addition to her regular appearances on <i>The Phantastic Sports Show<\/i>, which began in 2024, Apody will anchor the station\u2019s Saturday night newscast at 10 p.m. and pop in elsewhere as needed. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a full-time thing, but who knows? Maybe it\u2019ll become that. That\u2019d be awesome,\u201d Apody said. \u201cBut I\u2019m so thrilled to be doing what I love again.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The expanded role will also include reporting, which will put her back into the stadiums during a busy year for Philly sports, featuring the World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and the Eagles heading to London. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m more than ready,\u201d Apody said. \u201cI do think it\u2019s going to be a little weird &#8230; not to mention starting with a different station\u2019s name on the microphone after all this time.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>She certainly has plenty of experience. For the bulk of her tenure at 6abc. Apody anchored the 5:30 p.m. edition of <i>Action News<\/i> five days a week and was a regular at the city\u2019s stadiums covering the teams. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>All that ended when she lost her job in 2023, a gut-wrenching experience Apody wasn\u2019t even able to talk about publicly until almost a year later. Ultimately, she was forced back to the stands by her three young sons, all of whom are diehard Philly sports fans. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt was really hard. Harder than I thought,\u201d Apody said. \u201cFor a while there, those stadiums and ballparks really reminded me that I wasn\u2019t able to do what I love more than anything, so it was hard for me to face. I actually made the choice not to face it.\u201d <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>After leaving 6abc, Apody reached out to most of the stations around town and had meetings with both NBC10 and CBS3. But she really hit it off with Fox 29 executives Jim Driscoll and Dennis Bianchi, and said working for the station has been \u201ca breath of fresh air,\u201d recalling the words of former 6abc sports director Gary Papa, who hired her in 2006.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHe once told me, \u2018You don\u2019t know what you don\u2019t know. You don\u2019t even know what you know,\u2019\u201d Apody recalled. \u201cThe first time I walked in the door [at Fox 29] two years ago, I couldn\u2019t believe what I\u2019d been missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>She\u2019s not the only <i>Action News<\/i> alum at the station.
