Hyvear Zayzohn Tookes was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital just before midnight Sunday, police said. His death came following a police response to gunfire on 16th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue at 11:16 p.m. in the 22nd District, near Temple’s campus.
Investigators found numerous spent cartridge casings at the scene, but no victims, police said.
Around that time, officers in the nearby 25th District were alerted to a victim who had been dropped off at Temple University Hospital’s emergency department who turned out to be Tookes. Officers stopped a U-Haul van at the hospital that was believed to be involved with the incident and arrested the male occupants inside, police said.
