Amtrak and NJ Transit rail service to New York is suspended after a now-extinguished fire in Penn Station injured five people and disrupted service.

A maintenance train caught fire around 1:30 a.m. on Friday inside Penn Station near the Hudson River tunnels, according to Amtrak. The New York Fire Department brought in 46 fire trucks to quell the blaze, the NYFD said. Five rail workers were hurt, with two of them taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The fire was under control at 4:05 a.m., the fire department said.
All Amtrak services heading to New York will be suspended until the afternoon. NJ Transit service is suspended between New York and Newark until further notice, with cancellations and delays expected.

“Amtrak apologizes for the inconvenience and is providing rebooking opportunities and refunds while it works to return to scheduled service levels,” an Amtrak spokesperson said.
