If Brandon Marsh had plans to go away for a few days in the second week of July, he should probably cancel.

The All-Star Game is beckoning.
Marsh continued his star turn Sunday in the Phillies’ 9-5 victory in a seesaw rubber match with the White Sox in Citizens Bank Park. Not only did he homer for a third game in a row, but he also walked and scored, lined an RBI single, and made a leaping catch against the wall in left field.
The Phillies capped a 5-1 homestand and won for the ninth time in 12 games to maintain their hold on a wild-card spot in the National League.
And through it all, Marsh has been their best player.
Marsh leads the majors with a .338 average. He also has an .889 OPS. Remember the days when he started only against right-handed pitching? Yeah, that’s a thing of the past. He has been one of the best outfielders in the majors.
But while Marsh has ascended to the level the Phillies believed he could reach when they traded for him at the deadline in 2022, Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott — his fellow former members of the Phillies’ “daycare” — also got in on the act in the finale against the White Sox.
Trailing 5-4 in the fifth inning, Bohm punched a game-tying double to right field before Stott drove in the go-ahead run with a single to center field.

Between them, Marsh, Bohm, and Stott went 5-for-10 with three runs and five RBIs.
The Phillies recorded 11 hits, five of which came with runners in scoring position. They rallied from 2-1 and 5-4 deficits against Aaron Nola, who lacked his usual control and lasted only 4⅓ innings. Nola walked four batters, three of whom came around to score.

Fifty years ago, the All-Star Game came to Philadelphia as part of the bicentennial celebration. Larry Bowa was among five Phillies who represented the National League. With the Midsummer Classic returning to town next month, Bowa joined Phillies Extra to recall the atmosphere surrounding the 1976 game and being an All-Star at Veterans Stadium, as well as the state of the current Phillies.
